Today I wanted to chat about who lives in a rental house and it stems from a conversation that we had with a potential client.
For many rental is actually a choice. Not everybody wants to buy. Some people choose to rent as it gives them fluidity. Many professionals who move with their careers choose to rent as it gives them more freedom.
When we studied the data from the latest 2021 census and indeed our own portfolio of rental properties, it revealed some interesting statistics which indicate that for many rental is now a lifestyle choice.
Here are some findings….
- There was a 17% jump in the proportion of private sector renters working in higher managerial and professional occupations, and today they make up almost one in six
- The proportion of private sector renters who own small businesses rose by 30% since 2011 – and there were over 660,000 at the latest count.
Did you also know that the average age of a renter in the UK is 29? Closer to home in Lancaster, 51% of all renters are aged over 30.
