Today I wanted to talk about pets, but to keep with the festive theme, I feel it only right to point out that Santa Claus is an animal lover and keeps reindeer as pets. Don’t forget to leave a carrot out for Rudolph and his pals!
Did you know? Nearly two-thirds (62%) of UK households now own a pet, up from just 41% two years ago. “Pets” is a top 5 search term for renters. It is easy to see why!
More than 1 in 3 households (34%) own a dog, while 28% of households own a cat. Add in, indoor birds, rabbits and hamsters and they make up the top 5 most popular pets.
What is really interesting is that 50% of renters think being pet friendly is an important requirement in a property. Even more interesting is that more than 1 in 4 tenants would rent for longer if they were allowed to keep a pet.
Are you a landlord? Would you consider making your property pet friendly? Many tenants will actually pay a slightly higher rent for a pet friendly home. Many will also stop longer which means less void periods.
It’s food for thought isn’t it? Better rents, longer staying tenants and happier tenants too!
