As retail and hospitality start to open back up across the UK, Lancaster and Morecambe business owners may finally have some good news to look forward to. According to the latest PWC Consumer Sentiment Survey consumer confidence is at its highest since records began in 2008. People have money saved and they are ready to spend on having some fun and retail therapy!
The index stands at +8, higher than the previous record of +5 in December 2015, and 34 points higher than at the start of the pandemic. You only have to take a walk along the promenade in Bare, or through Lancaster City Centre to see the people dining alfresco, carrying shopping bags and having the hair done to see the smiles and hear the laughter. People want to enjoy themselves!
It is the same across the housing market. The latest dataloft demand Index monitors the online hits on agents websites. This data shows that demand is 147% as people rush to get moved. We are seeing in our agency many homes achieving multiple offers and asking price and above offers being achieved on family-sized homes. Already this month 34 homes have sold and we have lots more offer in discussion!
When people move, they also spend further monies on their new home. This could be anything from re-decorating, new kitchens, bathrooms, carpets – even plants for the garden. The housing market does help keep the economy going in many different ways!
