Do you need space to work in your Lancaster home?

The Home Moving Trends Survey is one of the most important surveys in our industry. It is conducted by The Property Academy. In 2022 over 10,000 people responded. It asks them a series of questions about where they live, what they are looking for in their home and what they expect from an estate agent. It also asks lots more which we will cover in future articles.

The survey then gets analysed by data specialists Dataloft ( they have recently worked with a team of journalists from the BBC ). They report back seller and buyer sentiment and basically what people really think, feel and want!

One of the questions that are asked each year is about the importance of having space to work from home. In 2020 and 2021, just 35% of people rated it as important. This was surprisingly low, especially when you consider we were going through a pandemic.

Now we are in 2022 and this number has jumped to 47%. More and more people are wanting a home that offers flexible living.

Almost 3 in 4 of the home movers surveyed this year stated they are able to work remotely. Whilst not everyone chooses to work from home or even wants to work from home, the one thing we have discovered is that people like to have a choice.

There is a debate now going on. Do people prefer to work from home or the office? Time will tell if the cost-of-living crisis during the winter months will result in a return to the office for those who can – this will saving energy costs in the home, or if more people will opt to work from home, thus saving money on travel costs.

What will you choose to do? We would love to know!
