More Workers Return to the Office, Shifting Priorities for Homebuyers

As more companies encourage employees to return to the office, either full-time or through a hybrid model, homebuyers are adjusting their priorities. During the pandemic, many buyers sought larger homes in suburban or rural areas, thanks to the flexibility of remote work. Now, with more workers splitting their time between home and the office, commuting convenience is becoming more important.

Many buyers are now focusing on homes that offer shorter commutes or easier access to public transportation. In fact, “good transport links” was ranked 6th on the list of most important factors for homebuyers, surpassing preferences like property size. For those adopting a hybrid work model, balancing remote work with office days, living near reliable transportation is becoming a top priority.

This shift aligns with the increase in rail usage, which is now nearing pre-pandemic levels. With public transit becoming a crucial part of everyday routines again, homes near train stations or bus routes are seeing increased demand.

In today’s market, homebuyers are looking for properties that offer a flexible lifestyle—homes that not only provide a comfortable space to work remotely but also allow for an easy commute on office days. Access to good transportation is emerging as a key factor in this new balance.

Would you agree with this? And what do you prefer, working from home full-time? Working in the office full time or more of a hybrid approach?
