The Lancaster Property Market v a punnet of strawberries…

Are you a Wimbledon Fan? We know many people that are.

The 136th Wimbledon Championship is underway. The All England Club is set to host around 800 players, 679 matches and over half a million spectators before its conclusion on Sunday 16th July.

Here is an interesting fact for you. Each year at the Championships around £500,000 is spent by spectators tucking into delicious English strawberries and cream. Close to 200,000 portions are sold at £2.50 per portion.

Strawberries at Wimbledon have been just £2.50 since 2010. It feels like this is the only food item I know which hasn’t increased in price! I do wonder though, have the punnets got smaller?

In the same period, UK property prices have increased by a whopping 53%. I thought I would delve deeper, so to make it more relevant, in Lancaster, they have jumped by 40.5%.

Back in 2010, the average price of a property was just over £171,000 and only one in every 20 properties sold for in excess of £500,000. In the past year, more than one in every six properties sold has had a price tag in excess of £500,000.

So if you are lucky enough to get a ticket to Wimbledon this year, tuck into your strawberries knowing they haven’t increased in price since 2010. And if you have been before, please let me know if the punnets are the same size or not!!

Thanks for reading this light-hearted blog. If I can help you with anything property related, perhaps we could chat over a punnet Lancaster strawberries!

From me, it is game, set and match!
