It seems that talking about England football results in their first game against Scotland is sore point for many. Social media is full of opinions about the game. And when you look at what the players are worth, it’s no wonder expectations are high!
Because the Euro’s are on, our research team thought they would look closely at the England Squad and what the players are financially worth.
Would you be surprised to read that the most valuable team in the competition is England? Combined the 26 man squad is worth £1.15 billion – this the equivalent in price terms to over 4188 homes ( based on the average UK home being worth £274,615. ). In case you are wondering, we calculated the average player to be worth a whopping £44 million, compared to £9 million and £6 million Scotland and Wales.
Now let’s put this into context at a local level. The average property price in Lancaster is £157,948. The England squad – just 26 players are worth the equivalent of 7280 local homes. Over in Morecambe, the average price is £146,453. The England squad in Morecambe is worth the equivalent of 7852 local homes. It’s enough to make your eyes water!
The total value of the 24 teams competing in Euro 2020 is just shy of £9.4 billion, that’s more than the £8.66 billion taken in residential SDLT receipts across the UK in 2020/21!
