Wimbledon, Great British Tennis Courts and a £2 million prize pot. What type of home would that buy the winner…..

Wimbledon is in its 135th year with the All England Club celebrating its centenary of hosting this iconic Grand Slam. I think that alone is a major achievement and something worth celebrating. Have you ever been? It’s on my bucket list of things to do!

I’m useless at tennis. I don’t think my reaction time is quick enough. However, did you know that in England there are nearly 4 million people that participate in the sport regularly? That’s almost 6% of our population. Great Britain is in the top 10 tennis-playing nations globally!

Across the UK there are 24,000 public tennis courts. 2.8 million live within 400m of a tennis court. I wonder how many of those actually play?

Closer to home in Lancaster and Morecambe, we also have several tennis clubs which include the Bowerham Lawn Tennis Club, Lancaster Tennis Club and of course the University and also courts in Middleton and Bolton-Le-Sands.

The winners of the men’s and women’s singles will each receive £2 million for their efforts at this year’s Wimbledon. It is one of the few sports where the men’s and women’s prize money is equal.

Being an estate agent I always like to link back to property. If the winner decided to invest in property, with a £2 million pound budget they could have purchased any of the 99.5% of homes that have sold in the last 12 months across the UK. Or I could have easily helped them purchase 15 great investment properties across the city!

This week’s blog has been more for fun, however, if you would like to chat about the local property market, please remember we are always here to help!
